New Arrivals: Marble Sets

Two things are new this season, and they pull in different directions. The first is a run of borderless chess boards — fourteen of them, cut without a frame so the squares meet the edge of the stone. The second is our first proper backgammon line. Between them they are the newest work out of our workshops, and both sit in the same price band, $89 to $99. The established range of marble chess sets runs to over a hundred boards if you want the boxed sets and the larger sizes.

The borderless boards are the more interesting departure. Without a frame, the eye reads the whole slab of stone rather than a grid inside a border, and eight of the fourteen come with minimalist geometric pieces — cylinders and wedges rather than carved knights — which changes the object entirely when the board is not in play. Twelve are 12-inch and two are 10-inch. If you would rather have a framed board with a storage box, the wider run of 12 inch marble chess sets covers both.

The backgammon sets are the largest boards we cut at sixteen inches, and they arrive complete: thirty playing chips, two dice, two doubling cubes, two leather dice cups and an instruction sheet. Nothing needs buying separately, which is unusual at this price. Our marble backgammon sets pair a white stone board with contrasting chips in black and green, red and travertine, oceanic and travertine, or zebra black and oceanic.

All of it is cut from stone quarried in Pakistan and finished by hand in our workshops there — carved with diamond-blade saws for clean geometry, then hand-polished until the veining reads. That is why no two boards match: the pattern in the stone is not a design decision, and the set that arrives will differ from the photograph in veining even where the colour family is identical.

  • Marble is a natural stone, so it is inherently fragile if dropped. However, we use RoyalBishop Branded Secure & Fragile Packaging. Each set is encased in custom-cut, high-density shock-absorbing foam and a double-walled box to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
  • Every masterpiece undergoes a rigorous quality check. Our average handling time is 2–4 business days, followed by a shipping time of 4–8 business days. You will receive an automated email with your tracking link (DHL, FedEx, or UPS) within 24–48 hours of dispatch.
  • Since we use 100% genuine natural marble and onyx, every set is unique. While the primary colors will match the description, the veining patterns, translucency, and exact shades are a work of nature and will vary slightly. This ensures your set is a one-of-a-kind original.
  • We take full responsibility for the transit. If any piece or the board arrives damaged, simply email a photo of the item and the packaging to info@royalbishop.com within 14 days, and we will ship a brand-new replacement immediately.

  • Maintenance is simple. Just wipe it with a soft, damp microfiber cloth. Avoid using acidic cleaners (like vinegar or lemon) or harsh chemicals, as they can etch the stone and dull the hand-polished finish.
  • Yes. We provide either an attached felt bottom on the board or separate self-adhesive felt pads for all the chess pieces. This ensures a smooth glide during play and protects your glass or wooden furniture from scratches.
