Marble Peg Solitaire Sets

Peg solitaire earns its place on a table even when nobody is playing. Ours are cut ten inches across from natural marble — Verona, travertine, oceanic, black and white — and polished until the veining reads under a lamp. The marble balls sit cool and heavy in the hand, which is the difference between a stone board and a moulded one. Solitaire is the single-player entry in our wider range of marble board games, all cut from the same quarried stone by the same artisans.

The game itself is a puzzle rather than a contest. You jump one marble over an adjacent marble into an empty recess, lift the marble you jumped, and continue until no legal move remains; a clean finish leaves one marble on the board. It needs no opponent, no setup and no explanation, which is why a solitaire board tends to stay out rather than going back in a cupboard. Our guide on how to play marble peg solitaire covers the solo puzzle and the two-player variant.

Most sets here ship with 42 natural marble balls, each around half an inch across, on a board ten inches wide and roughly three quarters of an inch thick. The recesses are carved to hold each ball still mid-game, and a grooved channel runs the outer edge to hold the marbles you have taken, so they stay on the board rather than on the floor. Two of the older Verona and travertine listings do not state a ball count; check that listing before ordering.

The stone changes the character of the board more than the size does. Verona reads warm, with dense russet veining. Travertine is paler and carries natural pitting across the surface — that texture is the stone, not a defect. Oceanic runs cool grey-blue. Black and white gives the sharpest contrast between board and marbles and is the easiest to read from across a room. Because every board is cut from natural stone, no two are identical.

Ten inches takes about the footprint of a large book laid flat — enough for a side table, a bookshelf or the corner of a desk, and small enough to carry from one room to another without a second thought. Care is simple: a soft, damp cloth brings the shine back, while vinegar, lemon and other acidic cleaners should be kept away, as they etch marble and dull a hand-polished surface permanently.

Solitaire is solo by design, and one board in this collection is listed as a two-player set. For a proper two-player game in the same stone, our marble checkers sets use the same boards, finish and colour palettes, while the marble backgammon sets are the largest and heaviest boards we cut, for a game that runs an hour rather than ten minutes.

ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

  • Marble is a natural stone, so it is inherently fragile if dropped. However, we use RoyalBishop Branded Secure & Fragile Packaging. Each set is encased in custom-cut, high-density shock-absorbing foam and a double-walled box to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
  • Every masterpiece undergoes a rigorous quality check. Our average handling time is 2–4 business days, followed by a shipping time of 4–8 business days. You will receive an automated email with your tracking link (DHL, FedEx, or UPS) within 24–48 hours of dispatch.
  • Since we use 100% genuine natural marble and onyx, every set is unique. While the primary colors will match the description, the veining patterns, translucency, and exact shades are a work of nature and will vary slightly. This ensures your set is a one-of-a-kind original.
