Marble Tic Tac Toe Sets — Handcrafted Natural Stone

Tic tac toe is the game everyone already knows, which is exactly why it works in stone. Nobody has to be taught it, nobody has to be persuaded to play, and a guest who picks up a marble ball on a coffee table has started a round before they have thought about it. Ours is the most compact game in our range of marble board games, cut from the same natural stone as the chess and checkers boards and finished to the same polish.

Each set is a ten-inch board with ten marble balls, and the balls are an inch and a quarter across — heavy enough that they sit where you put them and cool to the touch in a way plastic never manages. Ten inches is the only size we make it in, which is deliberate: any larger and it stops being the thing you leave on a side table.

Three colourways are available. White and black is the sharpest to read from across a room. White and green is the softer of the three and sits well against wood. White and oceanic runs cool grey-blue for a more modern room. Because the stone is natural, the veining differs from board to board, so the set that arrives will not match the photograph exactly — the colour family will, the pattern will not. Care takes seconds: a soft, damp cloth, and nothing acidic, since vinegar and lemon etch marble and dull the polish for good.

What a stone version changes is not the game but where it lives. A cardboard or plastic set gets put away; a marble one stays out, which means it gets played more often rather than less.
