12 Inch Marble Chess Sets

If you are buying a chess set as a gift, a 12 inch chess set is the safest size to choose. It is big enough to feel like a proper stone board the moment it comes out of the box, and small enough that the person receiving it never has to clear a table to make room. It fits a desk beside a laptop, a coffee table between the books, or a shelf in a first apartment, which is why the 12 inch chess board is the size we point most gift buyers to across our range of marble chess sets.

Think about where the set will live rather than who will play. For a colleague or a manager, a framed black and white board looks at home in an office. For a couple moving into a new place, a round board sits softly on a coffee table and tends to be the first thing guests ask about. For someone who loves design more than chess, the borderless boards with minimalist geometric pieces read closer to sculpture than to a game. And for an adult player who has only ever played on a screen, any of them is a reason to put the phone down.

There are three formats on this page. The framed sets are the traditional choice, and most of them arrive in a storage box that doubles as the gift presentation, so there is nothing to wrap around a bare board. The round boards come with a storage box too. The borderless boards drop the frame so the squares run to the edge of the stone, and most of them come without a box. Every set carries thirty-two hand-polished pieces, and most add two extra queens for pawn promotion.

Then choose the stone. Black and white is the classic and never looks dated. Oceanic is a cool grey-blue, travertine a pale stone with the natural pitting that marks it out, coral and fossil coral run warm, green brings colour to a neutral room, and zebra black is the most striking pairing we cut. Because every board is natural stone, the veining on theirs will not repeat on any other set. That makes each one a unique chess set rather than one off a shelf, and it is the detail that makes a gift feel chosen rather than bought.

If you are unsure whether twelve inches suits the space, our marble chess set size guide sets all three sizes against real desks and tables. Care is simple enough to pass on with the gift: a soft, damp microfiber cloth, and nothing acidic, because vinegar and lemon etch marble.

For a smaller space or a first stone set, the 10 inch marble chess sets are our most compact boards. For a board meant to hold a room and stay set up, the 15 inch marble chess sets are the largest we make.

ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

  • Marble is a natural stone, so it is inherently fragile if dropped. However, we use RoyalBishop Branded Secure & Fragile Packaging. Each set is encased in custom-cut, high-density shock-absorbing foam and a double-walled box to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.
  • Every masterpiece undergoes a rigorous quality check. Our average handling time is 2–4 business days, followed by a shipping time of 4–8 business days. You will receive an automated email with your tracking link (DHL, FedEx, or UPS) within 24–48 hours of dispatch.
  • Since we use 100% genuine natural marble and onyx, every set is unique. While the primary colors will match the description, the veining patterns, translucency, and exact shades are a work of nature and will vary slightly. This ensures your set is a one-of-a-kind original.
  • We take full responsibility for the transit. If any piece or the board arrives damaged, simply email a photo of the item and the packaging to info@royalbishop.com within 14 days, and we will ship a brand-new replacement immediately.
  • Yes, we offer replacement pieces on request! Please visit our Replacement Pieces Page or email us at info@royalbishop.com with your board size, color, and required piece type so we can match the exact piece for you.
  • Maintenance is simple. Just wipe it with a soft, damp microfiber cloth. Avoid using acidic cleaners (like vinegar or lemon) or harsh chemicals, as they can etch the stone and dull the hand-polished finish.
  • Yes. We provide either an attached felt bottom on the board or separate self-adhesive felt pads for all the chess pieces. This ensures a smooth glide during play and protects your glass or wooden furniture from scratches.
