I got these to go with a wooden board I'm making, so that they didn't come with a board was perfect. These stone chess pieces are hefty and sculpted out of marble. They don't have a lot of detail in each piece, but that's the style - clearly presenting each piece without being distracting. The set comes with felt pads that can be attached to the bottom to prevent scratching. These are beautiful chess pieces.

I have had a lot of chess sets over the years, but this one is really something special. There's something really satisfying about moving a piece that's handcrafted out of stone. (And I can tell these are, at least to some extent, handcrafted, as there are variations between what should be identical carvings.) The designs are relatively simple, but that actually lends to the charm; they are more evocative than your standard detailed wooden piece. This is a "grown-up" set, and it is very much worth the price tag.

My arthritic hands need a more substantial size and weight to keep from knocking over standing pieces. This set does exactly that. In addition they are beautiful.

My daughter and I love chess. These are soooo nice. We have a wooden board, and use these now, and they just feel sooo awesome. I feel rich and distinguished when I play now!
